My Books!
I’ll be populating this page with my books as I publish them. So far, there’s only one, but if you’ve looked at my fiction page, you know I have plans to change that number!
“Excellent – another book about writing!” – Nobody. Ever.
There are lots of books about writing a thesis or dissertation. This is one of them… but with a twist.
Yes, it includes advice about writing, revision, formatting, and so forth.
It also includes advice about topics like project management skills, interpersonal dynamics, and self-care. These are all things the author either wasn’t told, or didn’t pay attention to, back in the dark days of the twentieth century when he was in graduate school. It’s all important stuff; it’s also stuff “they” may not tell you.
Someone should.
Tackling a serious subject from a perspective that is sometimes light-hearted, sometimes caustic, but always supportive, Dr. Morrie Mullins draws on over 20 years mentoring graduate student theses and dissertations in a book designed to help you succeed. He offers advice to help you not just write and defend your thesis or dissertation, but to build skills for life.
That’s the “back cover copy” up above. Marketing stuff, which I guess I’m supposed to write. Here’s what I think matters, though.
Grad school is a short piece of your life, and the thesis or dissertation is really just one element of it. Sometimes, that element?
It sucks.
That’s because hard things are, by definition, HARD. Sometimes, they make us question our life choices. You’ll have days like that.
But you’ll also have days when the work reminds you, over and over, why you’re doing what you’re doing. You chose this path for a reason. I wrote this book because we all need to be reminded of that, sometimes, and because it’s impossible to have too much support in getting through grad school.
